Day 5 A little rain didn’t stop us
Gabe and Doug Schneider
Today started out a very wet and rainy day compared to the other days that were beautiful. We arrived at Tipi Wakan wearing our rain gear with little hope of any outdoor activities in mind. After breakfast we helped move the food drive items to the church and setup the tables for distributing to the people. We did a few other odd jobs but nothing outside, because of the rain. Since we setup the tent last night for the food drive it was the only dry place for games today. Gaga was a great hit yesterday so we decided to set it up in the middle of the tent.
About thirty minutes before VBS started the rain tapered off and stopped in time for when the kids arrived. We had a smaller group today and started to get them to join in on the songs and other activities. The kids are excited to see us and are becoming friendly with us. They really enjoyed the craft project today and some of them poured they hearts out into the work. Gaga was a hit again today, the kids even convinced Roger and me (Doug) to play a few games. Today’s meal was meatloaf, potatoes, and green beans. It was a great success. I know some kids had seconds and a few had thirds. I think the word got out because today after the kids left we served several adults that came in after we were cleaning up. When we were loading the kids back on the bus a lot of them were giving hugs and saying thank you. We are witnessing the difference we are making in their lives. It is a great feeling.
