We had our last dinner together in Yetebon and had some time reflecting on the new friends we’ve met and the things we’ve experienced. Our bags are packed, making sure they are within the weight limits as we’re packing in some great smelling Ethiopian coffee. Tomorrow we will leave after breakfast, spend some time in Addis at a couple of markets, eat a final dinner together and begin the long process of immigration and security to catch our 10:15 pm flight home. Although we have loved our time here, we are ready for family, friends, showers, pizza, our own beds and cold drinks.
As I read through the blog posts, let me fill in a few “holes” in our story, some of the things that didn’t get reported. Each day is packed with memories and depending on when the posts have been written, some of our highlights and lowlights get overlooked.
We haven’t had a lot of lowlights this week. We’ve had limited water (for showers) and electricity, but we’ve come to expect that. What we didn’t expect has some of the stomach issues that presented this week. I (Brian) was hit Monday night and was out of it all day Tuesday and part of Wednesday. Travel medication kicked in, but I’ve felt the effects (weakness) the whole week. Food intake has been limited since Tuesday. Friday night Tom was hit and was down on Sat and Sun. He went to the clinic today
Did some extractions but was still feeling the effects. He’s getting better but still moving slow.
Saturday several in our group did a hike up the mountain. Over 9 miles of hiking in pretty rough terrain. They all survived, commented on how beautiful it was and nursed tired bodies the rest of the day. Dan had some stomach pains but they’ve been under control. Saturday night was our bon fire with the house kids. They loved the glow necklaces and smores that we brought with us.
See you soon!!
