We had smooth travels on our way to Standing Rock Reservation in Cannon Ball, ND. The bus ran great and had enough room in the bays to carry all of our VBS supplies, game equipment and large food purchases in Bismarck. We will be feeding about 100 people for supper (Mon - Fri), so you can imagine the multiple carts we loaded into the bus at Sam's Club and Walmart.
We made it to Cannon Ball and Tipi Wakan (church) about 7:30 pm and unloaded food supplies. We met our hosts, Pastor Boots, Pete and Angela and they gave us a brief intro to Standing Rock and what to expect. They let us know some "good news and bad news" for the coming week. Good News, we will have lot's of kids that will come to VBS, Bad News, head lice is a problem on the reservation. Good News, Pastor Boots, Pete and Angela have never gotten lice, bad news it's tick season. Good News, the snakes are "mostly" gone (headed up the mountain), Bad News, don't wear flip flops in certain areas because of the ground cactus that will puncture your feet.. Good News if we do see a large fat snake - it's a "good" Bull Snake, Bad News, it could also be a rattle snake. By this time, the look on our teams face was priceless; all they heard was lice, ticks, cactus and snakes!
We finally made it to our hotel. We are staying at Prairie Knights Casino. Seems funny to have a missions team staying at the Casino, but it was our only option within an hours drive. Looking forward to a good nights sleep and worshiping with Tipi Wakan in the morning. The last 4 of our team will be joining us tomorrow. They were on the Alaska trip and will travel to Cannon Ball tomorrow afternoon. By Sunday night our full team will be on site and ready to go!!
